杖 = 丈 + 木 : James II of England (zh) put a walking stick (杖) as a present for Bigfoot (丈) under the Christmas tree (木) in the anglepod's bathroom (ang4), but Bigfoot thinks the whole Christmas tree is supposed to be his walking stick, breaks of the branches and just uses the trunk of the tree as his new cane (杖).

丈 = 一 + 乂 : Mnemonic symbol: ten feet are about 3 meters, so let's say Bigfoot. Nice side effect: that way it's easier to remember 丈夫 = husband (if your husband looks like Bigfoot).
